Preparing the Next Generation of Health Scientists,
金鹰资源 Kicks Off Summer Programs

Offers hands-on programs for students from elementary school through medical school.


May 30, 2017 鈥� ATLANTA 鈥� 金鹰资源 (金鹰资源) is preparing students of all ages for careers in health sciences. This summer, more than 350 students will take part in 18 health- and STEAM-related programs. Most of the programs will take place in Atlanta; however, two will be based in Accra, Ghana.

Some of the programs include:

  • Atlanta Sickle Cell Summer Research Program 鈥� A seven-week program for high school students from underrepresented communities designed to let them learn more about health professions. They will gain hands-on experience in a laboratory environment as they conduct research on sickle cell disease.
  • 金鹰资源 STEAM Academy 鈥� Consists of two program tracks for students in grades 4 through 8, and high school students. Elementary and middle school students will learn about subjects such as robotics, anatomy and engineering through projects, field trips and special guests. High schoolers will dive into scientific and laboratory techniques, take mini-courses and participate in workshops on careers in health care, health sciences, and more.
  • 鈥� One of two programs based in Accra, Ghana, this program exposes medical students to research working to create health equity on a global level.

鈥淧ipeline programs at 金鹰资源 provide students the opportunity to explore STEAM, biomedical research and health professions careers across a broad spectrum of educational levels,鈥� said Dr. Rita Finley, assistant dean of the Office for Educational Outreach and Health Careers. "The summer season allows time for a more concentrated exposure with 18 programs directed to K-12 students through graduate and medical students. For younger students, these experiences can be beneficial in helping to retain academic skills, while more seasoned students enrich critical-thinking skills through developing research design and professionalism skills by balancing independence and collaboration."
